Leadership Structure

Elders

As a Presbyterian Church we are lead by a team of Elders, people of spiritual maturity whom the church has chosen as its leaders.

The Elders are:

Peter Cheyne Andrew Dodds Paul Loveday Elizabeth Roy
George Cook Allan Grace Bronwyn McCall Eric Roy
Eoin Crosbie Greg King Madeleine Peacock

The Elders have general oversight of the whole church and are responsible for policy, personnel issues, dealing with problems that crop up including discipline (which fortunately happens very seldom), etc.

Department Leaders

The life of the church is broken up into nine departments. Each has a Department Leader. These people are generally not Elders. We see the two roles as being quite different. The Department Leaders are responsible for the management of their department.

The Department Leaders are:

Worship Chris Cheyne Leadership Peter Cheyne
Fellowship Vacant Children & Families Paul Loveday, Sandra Gow
Maturity Peter Cheyne Prayer Vacant
Serving Paul Loveday Administration and Deacons Vacant

Staff

We have six employed staff. They are:

Senior Pastor Peter Cheyne Administrator/P.A Nichi Russell
Associate Pastor Paul Loveday Administration Jo Parish
Youth Pastor Marty Redhead Community Link Jocelyn Grace
Youth Intern Jase Barron

The relationship between these groups

The Elders have overall authority. However, much of that is delegated.

The Department Leaders and Staff are often much closer to the action than the Elders and more closely involved.

We believe that those with responsibility for a particular area should also have the authority in that area. Consequently, although the Elders do have overall authority, they do not get involved in the management of a department and they are not looking over people's shoulders checking how well they are operating. We operate on the basis of trust which also means good communication.

Because the Elders, the Department Leaders and the Staff are all responsible for dreaming dreams and having vision, that role is shared and all three groups meet together once a month. That grouping is known as the Combined Leadership Team. Meeting together emphasises that no team is more or less important than another but that they each different, complementary roles.

Other leaders

Within each department are lots of groups and ministry teams. Each of those also has a leader. Those leaders report to, and are supported by, the Department Leader.

The church's property and finances are managed by a Deacons Court.
