Gore

Brown trout and country music are just two of the icons that have given Gore a world wide reputation.

The district can boast other sporting, recreational, cultural activities and facilities that are the envy of larger centres

There are six lakes within one and half hours drive for those interested in water sports, and ski fields are also within a leisurely drive. The Catlins Scenic reserve is a drive away winding through a variety of wonderful beaches and towns. Dolamore Park is close to Gore and is a great place for day tramping and picnicking with the family.

Our climate is variable with some snow in winter and lovely hot summer days.

Today farming, rural services, forestry, meat, Medium Density Fibreboard and tourism are the district’s major industries. Many other innovative and unique businesses flourish including floriculture and vintage aircraft restoration.

Camp Columba is a large Christian camp that is located 15 min from Gore. Over the years thousands of youth have taken part in the Easter or Labour Weekend camps supported by the Presbyterian church.

Gore has a population of around 13, 279. The district covers 1,250 km2 and includes Gore, Mataura and Waikaka.
